Road to Matera Gravel Bike Tour: Day 4
Itria, the ”Trulli Valley”
Itria area, the Valley of Trulli, UNESCO World Heritage since 1996, an immersion in lush greenery that is becoming one of the favorite holiday destinations of European nature lovers.
The ride is a succession of ups and downs on narrow streets lined with dry stonewalls. From time to time you come across the Trulli, archaic buildings typical of the area. A very dynamic pedaling that alternates splendid climbs with recovering compressions.
A day of battle, where you will challenge your travel companions on roads, dirt roads, paths, an uninterrupted succession of rolling hills. It will be a challenge to the last climb. We will cross the most beautiful towns of the Trulli Valley (Locorotondo, Martinafranca, Alberobello). You can take a picture in front of the Trulli of Alberobello.
Tonight we go to the sea, Puglia has an exciting seafood cuisine, we will have dinner barefoot on the beach, starting with an endless sequence of appetizers, first raw and then cooked. we then move on to the first courses (deliberately plural) and whoever is strong enough will reach the second courses.
Signature dishes: Tiella barese (rice, potatoes, and mussels) – Adriatic fish soup in tomato sauce with «Tubettino» pasta.
